Vestibular Migraine Management

Vestibular Migraine is recognized as the most common neurologic cause of vertigo, occurring more often than Meniere’s and Vestibular Neuritis. This course covers the current diagnostic criteria for vestibular migraine and equips vestibular rehabilitation specialists with a structured framework to effectively screen for this disorder. Topics include protective lifestyle behaviors, pharmaceutical & nutraceutical interventions, physical rehabilitation strategies, and discussion of appropriate referrals for patients with Vestibular Migraine. A case study is included to allow participants to apply the material learned and enhance their clinical decision making skills. The course aims to provide clinicians with the tools necessary to optimize patient outcomes and promote successful management of this complex disorder.
Audience
This intermediate-level course is relevant for vestibular rehabilitation specialists. A basic understanding of vestibular assessment and rehabilitation is required to effectively apply to patient care.
Course Objectives
After completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Identify the key features for migraine without and with aura using the ICHD-III diagnostic criteria.
Apply vestibular migraine diagnostic criteria in patients reporting dizziness, vertigo, and unsteadiness, and differentiate between conditions with similar symptoms for an accurate diagnosis.
Explain protective lifestyle behaviors, pharmaceutical & nutraceutical interventions, physical rehabilitation strategies, and appropriate referrals for patients with vestibular migraine.
Develop a physical therapy intervention plan to address identified impairments and activity limitations of a patient with Vestibular Migraine.
