Vestibular Migraine Management

Vestibular Migraine is considered the most common neurologic cause of vertigo and occurs more often than Meniere’s and Vestibular Neuritis. This course discusses the current diagnostic criteria for vestibular migraine and provides a framework for the rehabilitation specialist to be able to screen for this disorder. Physical rehabilitation, behavioral strategies, pharmaceutical options, and appropriate referrals for Vestibular Migraine are discussed to provide the tools to promote successful outcomes with patients.
Audience
This intermediate-level course is relevant for rehabilitation specialists. A basic understanding of vestibular assessment and rehabilitation is required to effectively apply to patient care.
Course Objectives
After completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Identify the key features for migraine without and with aura using the ICHD-III diagnostic criteria.
Apply vestibular migraine diagnostic criteria in patients reporting dizziness, vertigo, and unsteadiness, and differentiate between conditions with similar symptoms for an accurate diagnosis.
Explain physical rehabilitation interventions, behavioral strategies, pharmaceutical options, and appropriate referrals available for patients with vestibular migraine.
Develop a physical therapy intervention plan to address identified impairments and activity limitations of a patient with Vestibular Migraine.
