Part 1: Mindfulness Meditation for Medical Professionals: A Self-Care Practice
2 hours
Mindfulness meditation is a simple yet powerful practice of focusing on the present moment with non-judgment, curiosity, and gentle awareness. Most of the time our attention is not where we want it to be, and our perspective of our lived experience is often limited by biases that are unproductive for living a full and healthy life. Practicing mindfulness meditation trains our attention so that we can choose where we want to place our attention and polishes our perspective so that we can decide how we relate to life’s experiences. Just as physical training is vital for the body, brain training is essential for psychological health, and mindfulness meditation serves as a form of self-care that enhances our health and our quality of life.
As a certified mindfulness meditation instructor, and a long-time daily practitioner, Dr. Farrell offers this two-hour on-demand course as part one of a two part series. This session introduces the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation for self care—incorporating various meditation techniques throughout—to build a strong foundation for applying mindfulness in physical rehabilitation and wellness in Part 2 of the series.
